Mayhem Film Festival announces BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL, PSYCHO GOREMAN, THE OAK ROOM and the ever popular SHORT FILM SHOWCASE

Following on from July's launch of Mayhem Film Festival: Skeleton Edition, we're proud to announce the titles screening physically for this year's 16th edition of Broadway's festival of horror.
First up is our opening film, Irish horror-comedy Boys from County Hell, which sees the residents of a sleepy Irish village (whose claim to fame is the dubious legend that Bram Stoker once spent a night in the local pub where he was inspired to write 'Dracula') in a fight for survival as they discover there may be more to the myth of a local bloodsucking creature than they thought. From the producers of last
year's Mayhem Film Festival favourite Extra Ordinary, Boys from County Hell promises to be another raucous Mayhem crowd-pleaser.
We also can't wait to bring you Psycho Goreman, from the director of Mayhem favourites Manborg, Bio-Cop and The Void, Steve Kostanski (formerly of Astron-6). When siblings Mimi and Luke unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord using a magical amulet, they force the monster to obey their childish whims, and accidentally attract a rogues' gallery of intergalactic assassins to small-town suburbia. Called "the craziest, bloodiest horror-movie of 2020" by Bloody Disgusting, we can't wait to screen this journey into madness.
Rounding off this year's programme is the return of our ever-popular Short Film Showcase (titles to be announced soon) and our closing film, The Oak Room, a violent Canadian story of mistaken identity and double crosses starring Breaking Bad's RJ Mitte. During a raging snowstorm, a drifter returns home to the blue-collar bar located in the remote Canadian town where he was born. When he offers to settle an old debt with a grizzled bartender (Peter Outerbridge - Nikita, Orphan Black) by telling him a story, the night's events quickly spins out of control.

Mayhem Film Festival announces guests for upcoming 15th edition

With just over three weeks to go until its 15th edition, Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce its special guests for this year's festival.
Mayhem is pleased to welcome Extra Ordinary co-director Mike Ahern for a Q&A following a screening of the Irish paranormal comedy, which opens Mayhem 2019 on Thursday 10 October at 7.30pm.
Also attending this year's festival is Vivarium co-writer Garret Shanley. Garret will be speaking about the eerie science-fiction film, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots, which screens on the final day of Mayhem 2019 on Sunday 13 October.

Mayhem Film Festival reveals full line-up for 2019 edition

Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the full line-up for its 2019 edition, which will take place at Broadway Cinema, Nottingham on 10-13 October. The festival showcases the best features and short films in horror, sci-fi and cult cinema, through premieres, previews, and special events each year.
Mayhem is delighted to open this year's festival with hilarious horror comedy Extra Ordinary on Thursday 10 October. A small-town driving instructor with supernatural abilities tries to get through life without communicating with the dead - but the spirits have other ideas. Also screening on Thursday is the brain-twisting Daniel Isn't Real, in which a deeply troubled student summons his childhood "imaginary" friend but his grip on reality slips as the malignant alter ego unleashes a vicious, evil side.
From the producers of hallucinatory fever dream Mandy (a sell-out at Mayhem 2018) comes the most sought-after – and similarly psychedelic - genre film of the year, Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space, screening at this year's festival on Friday 11 October. This eerie H.P. Lovecraft adaptation sees a meteor fall to earth and onto the property of a New England family — its increasingly unhinged patriarch played by the one-and-only Nicolas Cage — with insidious and delirious results. It's a double-helping of Cage this year as his 1989 cult black comedy Vampire's Kiss takes the coveted Saturday late-night slot - it's Nic Cage at his full-powered, cockroach-eating, and utterly insane best.
The 15th edition of Mayhem will play host to three UK Premieres, with exclusive first screenings of high-octane serial killer thriller The Gangster, The Cop, The DevilPolish historical drama Sword of God (The Mute), and outrageous survival horror The Pool – all previously announced.
Taking a look back into the archives, Mayhem is pleased to present a rare screening of 1967 Russian folk horror Viy, and 1987's cult sci-fi favourite The Hidden, featuring a standout performance from Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachlan as an alien-hunting FBI agent.
Mayhem 2019's final day will begin with the unclassifiable Bullets of Justice. Having created human-pig hybrid super soldiers, mankind now finds itself dominated by these "Muzzles" who farm and eat human beings – a truly "what did I just watch?" experience to start off your Sunday morning.
Mayhem's 15th edition also includes screenings of female-led horror She Never Died and genre-bending monster movie, Something Else – both previously announced – alongside preview screenings of the gleefully explosive revenge rampage Why Don't You Just Die!, high-suspense thriller Door Lock, and sci-fi nightmare Vivarium, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots. Vengeful spirits are stirred into gory action in haunted house horror Girl on the Third Floor, and twisted thrill-ride Come to Daddy, starring Elijah Wood, will close the festival on Sunday.
Mayhem's ever-popular Short Film Showcase and the fiendish film quiz, The Flinterrogation - hosted by author David Flint - both return to round off this year's line-up.
Early Bird passes will remain on sale at the discounted price of £70 until Sunday 8 September 2019. Individual tickets and full festival passes – at the standard price of £80 – will go on sale at 10AM on Monday 9 September. We will also be introducing a new 'Frankenstein Ticket Package' for this year's festival – piece together your choice of five films over the weekend for just £30.

Mayhem Film Festival announces SHE NEVER DIED, THE POOL and THE GANGSTER, THE COP, THE DEVIL

With its 15th edition now less than two months away, Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the next three titles from its 2019 programme.
Mayhem will host the UK Premiere of all-action, South Korean serial killer thriller The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. A sardonic cop reluctantly teams up with a wounded crime boss (the remarkable Ma Dong-seok of Train to Busan) to track and stop a serial killer, but their criminal rivals stand – violently - in their way. See it way ahead of the upcoming Stallone-produced US remake.
Also in this year's line-up is She Never Died, a female-fronted companion piece to 2015 cult film He Never Died. Olunike Adeliyi stars as an immortal cannibal who seeks out the darkest souls humanity has to offer in the hunt for her next meal, when she saves a woman from dying a grisly death on a snuff web channel and proceeds to hunt down the culprits.
Rounding off this second wave of announcements is another UK Premiere, Thai action-horror The Pool, where a couple is trapped in an empty swimming pool with only a hungry crocodile for company. Packed with over-the-top twists and some genuinely shocking surprises, survival horror has never been so much ludicrous, logic-testing fun.

Mayhem Film Festival announces EXTRA ORDINARY, SWORD OF GOD (THE MUTE), SOMETHING ELSE and first guests

Following its biggest ever edition last year, Mayhem Film Festival is back for 2019 and proud to announce the first three titles for this year's festival.
Opening Mayhem's 15th edition is Irish supernatural comedy Extra Ordinary. In rural Ireland, reluctant medium Rose is called upon to save a local teen from the town's resident one-hit wonder rock star, who has somewhat satanic plans to bring his career back from the dead. Expect exorcisms, and plenty of ectoplasm. Mayhem is delighted to welcome special guests from the film for a Q&A after the screening.
Next in this year's line-up is the UK Premiere of immersive Polish historical drama Sword of God (The Mute). In the early Middle Ages, two Christian knights arrive at a pagan village hidden deep in the mountains. Soon, their faith and the bond between them are brutally tested as events spiral out of control, and many will die in the name of God.
Rounding off the first wave of announcements is the genre-bending Something Else. From directors Jeremy Gardner (cult buddy-movie-zombie-outbreak film The Battery) and Christian Stella comes a completely unique take on the monster movie – a love story. When Hank's girlfriend vanishes, leaving only a note behind, his sanity begins to slip and something mysterious stirs in the woods that surround his home.
More events, films and guests for Mayhem 2019 will be announced later in the summer.

Brain-controlled film, THE MOMENT, to screen at Mayhem

We are delighted to announce that Richard Ramchurn's brain-controlled film, The Moment, will be screening at Mayhem throughout the festival, and you may be able to change its narrative.
The Moment is a story set on the cusp of the Singularity. The story explores three narratives in a dystopian future where brain-computer interfaces are both a source of social threat and potential revelation. The film speaks about our present relationships with each other via social media and its facilitation of rise of far-right ideologies.
The Moment is an interactive film which uses a Brain Computer Interface to collect attention data from the viewer and recombine into a real-time narrative. Each time the film is watched, the rhythms of the viewer's brain data creates a new narrative combination – in total, there are 18 billion combinations. The Moment is the second brain-controlled film from writer/director Richard Ramchurn.

One viewer will be able to control the film whilst others can watch the experience unfold.
The Moment is a reaction to the post truth world. It holds up a mirror and reminds people of their own agency, and responsibility. Technology is being positioned to merge with us: Google's director of engineering Ray Kurzweil and Elon Musk have both independently stated that for biological intelligence to stay relevant it must merge with machines. This is the subject of great debate in the media, this experience uses the technology to raise awareness of brain computer interfaces and acts as a provocation to their future uses.

Mayhem Film Festival originally started as a single collection of short films before growing into the four-day weekend it is now, and so its Short Film Showcase remains at the heart of the festival with its traditional Saturday slot, and one of the most popular and beloved events of the programme each year.
Mayhem's full line-up was revealed last week and individual tickets, day passes and full festival passes are now on sale.

Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the full line-up for its 2018 edition, which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 11-14 October. The festival showcases the best features and short films in horror, sci-fi and cult cinema, through premieres, previews, and guested screenings each year.
Mayhem 2018 starts as it means to go on with Scottish zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse, which opens the festival on Thursday 11 October, and will be followed by a Q&A with director John McPhail. Aislinn Clarke will present a screening of her found-footage chiller The Devil's Doorway, set in one of Ireland's notorious Magdalene asylums. Writer-director Marc Price (smash-hit zombie flick Colin) will also attend the festival to present his action-packed crime-thriller Nightshooters, where things get messy when a hapless film crew on a late-night shoot accidentally record a gangland execution.
Mayhem's 14th edition will play host to no fewer than three UK Premieres, with exclusive first screenings of Nosipho Dumisa's Cape Town-set Hitchcock homage Number 37, slow-burning science-fiction indie Prospect, and – as previously announced – Shinsuke Sato's live-action manga adaptation Inuyashiki.
Already proving popular following last month's announcement and certain to be festival highlights are Panos Cosmatos' cosmic fever dream Mandy, starring a truly top-form Nicolas Cage, and Japanese box-office sensation One Cut of the Dead.
Delving into the archives, Mayhem is pleased to present a rare screening of Erik Blomberg's strange and supernatural 1952 Finnish folktale, The White Reindeer, and the Dario Argento-produced 1985 cult classic Demons.
This year's edition also includes screenings of horror anthologies Nightmare Cinema and The Field Guide to Evil – both previously announced – as well as preview screenings of Brazilian director Dennison Romalho's macabre mortuary horror The Nightshifter, Nicolas Pesce's darkly comic Piercing, starring Mia Wasikowska,the hilariouslybad-taste splatterfest Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, and haunted-house horror The Witch in the Window. Colin Minihan's grueling survival thriller What Keeps You Alive will close the festival.

Mayhem Film Festival announces THE DEVIL’S DOORWAY, MANDY, WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE, ONE CUT OF THE DEAD and NIGHTMARE CINEMA

As its 14th edition creeps ever closer, Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the next set of titles from this year's programme.
Mayhem is to present a screening of Aislinn Clarke's found-footage chiller The Devil's Doorway. In rural Ireland in 1960, two Catholic priests are sent from the Vatican to investigate reports of miraculous activity in a remote home for 'fallen women', only to discover that altogether darker forces may be at work. Mayhem is pleased to welcome director Aislinn Clarke to take part in a post-screening Q&A.
Showing in the festival's coveted Friday late-night slot, Nicolas Cage goes full... well, Nicolas Cage with a fantastically high-octane performance in Panos Cosmatos' cosmic revenge thriller Mandy. Pacific Northwest, 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.
Next up in this year's programme is Colin Minihan's grueling survival thriller What Keeps You Alive. On the eve of their first wedding anniversary, Jules and Jackie become embroiled in a merciless fight for their lives against the most unexpected of adversaries - each other. As violence rains down upon their idyllic forest getaway, the women engage in a frenzied physical - and psychological - battle that tests the very limits of their instinct to survive.
Also screening at this year's festival is Shin'inchiro Ueda's unmissable micro-budget zombie movie, and Japanese box-office sensation, One Cut of The Dead. Playing to sell-out audiences since its release, the film has made more than 250 times its budget, and counting. During the making of a small-scale zombie flick, all hell breaks loose when a real zombie outbreak erupts on set - a gleeful horror-comedy packed with seriously entertaining monster mayhem and an epic 37-minute single-take opening.
Wrapping up this second wave of announcements, Mayhem presents Nightmare Cinema, a new horror anthology uniting masters of genre cinema - including Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers, Masters of Horror) and Joe Dante (Gremlins) - for five gruesome tales of terror featuring sinister surgeons, brain-spiders and killer nuns.

Early Bird passes are now on sale for Mayhem Film Festival 2018, which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 11-14 October.
Early Bird passes allow access to the full festival, including all films and special events. The passes are available for a limited period of time for just £65 for four days of exciting previews, premieres, special guests and events, showcasing the best horror, sci-fi and cult features and shorts from around the world. Mayhem is also on the lookout for short films for its ever-popular Short Film Showcase. Ahead of its 14th edition, Mayhem will be accepting local, national and international entries, hoping to compile another selection of outstanding short films for what remains a much-loved part of the festival's programme, and still one of its most popular screenings each year.
Now a four-day event, Mayhem originally started as a single compilation of short films, and the short film selection still holds an important place in the festival's schedule. Mayhem Film Festival continues to expand, welcoming more special guests, celebrating new and emerging talent, and highlighting bold and exciting new feature and short films from the dark edges of genre and beyond.
